My general approach

The big picture is that I seek to help writers create stories that are deeply meaningful and have something to say about the world or the human condition (usually considered literary) as well as deeply engaging and captivating (usually considered commercial). You might also have heard the term "upmarket fiction" for this category of writing. If you too want to hit that balance, I'd love to work with you! Below are more FAQs about what type of fiction I do and don't work with.

My passion and expertise are in prose fiction, so I am well qualified and interested in working with you if you’re writing a novel (stand-alone or series), novella, short story, or flash fiction. I can help you with fiction for YA audiences and adult audiences. Content-wise, my loves are sci-fi, fantasy, and romance (and any genre-bending and blending of them), closely followed by contemporary fiction/literary fiction. I also enjoy working with mysteries and thrillers.

What genres and mediums I work with

I am unlikely to be interested in working on any non-prose fiction (screenplays and the like), and most nonfiction and poetry. I wouldn’t be able to help you with books for middle grade audiences and younger. I might not be the best fit if you’re working on historical fiction. Though if you feel confident in all the historical expertise and its integration and solely need story coaching, and believe my approach could be helpful to you, reach out and we can talk and see.

What genres and mediums wouldn’t be a good fit for me

I genuinely love working with writers at every stage of the creative process. Do you have an idea, but aren’t sure how to get it to a story? I can help. Do you have an outline, but aren’t sure if it’ll work? I can help. Do you have a work in progress and are stuck? I can help. Do you have a finished manuscript, but you feel it’s not working? I can help. Gimme all of it! Though I don’t work on stand-alone agent pitches, if we’ve worked together extensively on a project that is finished, and you are interested in publishing it traditionally and would like to query an agent, I am happy to give you query letter feedback and guidance.

What stage of the creative process I work with

I have experience and interest in some niche mediums, like graphic novels and TTRPG campaigns and would be open to discussing your needs. If you're a parent looking for help for your child, I have experience tutoring middle and high school students working on stories for school projects. Additionally, I also have experience with nonfiction books, specifically personal how-to’s that straddle a self-help/business book and a memoir. Though I am not actively looking to work on such a project, if you believe my philosophy of meaningful-yet-entertaining would be a great fit for you and the topic is compelling, reach out and let’s talk.

What if you think I can help you, but your project doesn’t fit into the above?
